Hello we are Jan(Popie) and Gail(Oma) Zarr and we are the founders of
Oma and Popie's Specialty Foods. We are the creators of award-winning sauces, seasonings, and jerky that blend bold, sweet, and spicy flavors. Born from adventure and flavor innovation, our Idaho-based brand delivers handcrafted “swicy” creations—made with all-natural ingredients—where flavor truly knows no boundaries.
In late 2025 and early 2026, Oma & Popie’s continued its award-winning streak, racking up three more major honors. Our bold Ying-Yang flavor earned 1st Place at the International Flavor Awards, while our fiery 5-Alarm Beef Jerkycaptured 3rd Place at the same competition. Adding to the momentum, 5-Alarm Beef Jerky also took home a 2nd Place Scovie Award, further cementing our reputation for delivering fearless, unforgettable flavor.

MEET THE OWNERS
We are a family of three living in South Nampa, Idaho. For over 23 years, Alfie Lane has been perfecting the art of smoked salsa, turning fresh ingredients into a flavorful experience that brings people together. After a lot of prep work and hoops to jump through, we officially opened our business in 2022. It has been a roller coaster to say the least.
The idea began with having excess wood soaking in water. He thought of the idea of trying to make smoked salsa. After lots of trial and error he has mastered the smoking technique of our vegetables and opened the minds of people who have never thought this was possible.
Since opening, the experience has been full of highs and lows. We've celebrated exciting milestones, like our first sale and positive customer feedback. We were thrilled to announce that our medium salsa had been awarded first place in an International flavor award competition in 2025 for fresh salsa. We plan to enter more competitions with some of our other levels in the future.
We have called Idaho our home since June 2017, and we absolutely love it here. The state offers a wealth of outdoor activities that we truly enjoy, including fishing in its many rivers and lakes, kayaking through scenic waterways, biking along beautiful trails, hiking in breathtaking landscapes, and relaxing in natural hot springs. Idaho’s natural beauty and endless opportunities for adventure make it the perfect place for our active lifestyle.

MEET THE OWNER
The Sunshine Sauce was created in 2022 in Boise by founder Mitch Zotovich. Mitch loves garlic and wanted a clean, versatile spicy condiment that tasted good on everything. He started by making small batches and selling at farmers markets, and the sauce took off quickly with steady growth and a loyal local following.
Today The Sunshine Sauce is sold in every Treasure Valley Fred Meyer, the Boise Co Op, JD’s Bodega, and will soon be carried in every Albertsons in the Treasure Valley.
Mitch built the brand on simple values. Real ingredients, bold flavor, and a product that works on almost anything. The Sunshine Sauce is also known for strong customer service and an ongoing commitment to supporting the community.
