43rd State of Mind celebrates everything Idaho and all that our great state has to offer.
We embrace Idaho's adventurous and independent spirit through our outdoor recreation resources, Idaho history and fun facts, photo fan club, local events, and of course, our Famous Idaho Buried Treasure Hunts.
The 43rd State of Mind was created for the everyday Idahoan—the person who loves this state, enjoys getting outside and appreciates the incredible places, people and stories that make Idaho so special. More than just a website, it's an online community created to bring us closer together, share our experiences and strengthen the common bonds that connect us as Idahoans.
We are incredibly fortunate to have majestic mountains, beautiful desert plains, wild rivers, crystal-clear lakes, forests, valleys and wide-open spaces right here in our own backyard. There is always another trail to explore, another small town to discover, another piece of history to uncover and another adventure waiting just around the corner.
And sometimes, there's even a treasure waiting to be found.
BURIED TREASURE HUNTS
Our Idaho Buried Treasure Hunts combine puzzles, riddles, Idaho history, geography and outdoor adventure into a unique experience unlike anything else. With 43 clues honoring Idaho as the nation's 43rd state, the journey takes you beyond the ordinary and encourages you to explore places you may have never seen before.
Because we believe the greatest treasures aren't always the ones buried in the ground.
They're the places we discover, the stories we uncover, the people we share them with and the memories we create along the way.
So whether you're looking for your next outdoor adventure, curious about Idaho's history and legends, searching for a local event, or ready to follow the clues to buried treasure, we invite you to explore with us.

Brenen Helgerson’s winning photograph enrty for our “Idahoans, Doing Idahoan Things” website section, captures the quiet beauty of an Idaho sunrise at Lost Valley Reservoir. This photo of Brenen capturing the sunrise with his camera, was taken by his friend Mitch, before a day of morel mushroom hunting and fishing. The image reflects everything that makes Idaho special — calm water, mountain air, towering pines, and the peaceful stillness before the wilderness comes alive.
It is a simple but powerful reminder that some of Idaho’s best moments happen far from crowds, greeting the sunrise with good friends, and the outdoors waiting ahead.
